  • The dogs available for adoption on our site will be adopted to families in CT, MA, ME, NH, RI, and VT ONLY.
  • The adoption donation varies depending on the dog's age:
    • Under 6 months - $350
    • 7 months to 2 years - $325
    • 3 years to 8 years - $300
    • Over 8 years - $275 or discretion of Area Coordinator
  • Please review our "What We Do" page to learn how we get our rescues, learn about IG's and their characteristics, and learn about the adoption process.
  • We would like to remind potential adopters that IG's are playful well into their teens and can easily live to be 14-16 yrs old, some even older! We have wonderful older iggies looking for homes. Please consider meeting one or a pair of them in person so you can see how wonderful they can be!
  • If you are a couple that is contemplating having children in the near future or if you currently have a young a child, please be sure that you are aware than an IG demands a lot of attention and can be very fragile. If you are intersted in adopting, please be sure that your child is well behaved and understands that they need to be gentle with the dog.
  • If you are thinking of adopting an IG, please know that 95% of these guys/gals are BED BUGS, they prefer to sleep in bed and under the covers because unlike many other breeds they crave warmth and body heat, they are snuggle bugs to the max! If you prefer that your dog sleep elsewhere, please consider adopting a different breed as it may take several months before we get an IG in rescue that would be okay with not sleeping in bed.
  • We MUST have your application in hand prior to having any discussions on specific dogs due to the increased volume of inquiries on our adoptable dogs.
  • The application can be printed from the "Application" button to the left and must be completed and faxed or emailed with attention to ONE of the following people:

         Mary Frankio (MA,ME,NH,VT): 781-447-0572 (fax) info@eastcoastigrescue.org (email)
Melissa Martin (RI): 401-597-0215 or 401-652-1704 (faxes) melissa@eastcoastigrescue.org (email)
         Tess Kennett (CT): dragonflidreams23@yahoo.com (email)
Ann Bodkhe (Western MA): ann@eastcoastigrescue.org (email)
  • We often have a list of approved homes waiting for dogs, so there are some IGs that don't make it onto our website. If you've researched the breed and think a rescued dog is for you, please submit an application, even if there is not a dog on our website in which you are interested. We may have more dogs in our rescue program than what are found on our site.

Available for Adoption

Nikki

Nikki is a very well mannered, healthy well trained 7 year old fawn colored little girl. She is crate trained, potty trained and leash trained. She is very responsive to directions on where to go and when to go. She walks well by herself and follows nicly on the leash, however when walked with other dogs she has the need to be in front, she does not however pull. Nikki does very well with other dogs (small breed - not sure on the large breed). She loves to go under the covers and cuddle. Nikki prefers slow calm contact. She likes long walks and a bit of play but she is more of a lap dog and for those that love to give and recieve the attention. One thing Nikki does not like is being left alone (even from room to room) and she needs to be reassured quite a bit as she has anxiety issues. She whines and crys when her main human leave the room. She has been quite spoiled with attention as a pre-marraige/pre child dog and she does not do well with small children as she needs to be approached a bit more slowly. In fact I would not recommend this dog for anyone that has kids and or teens that do not know how to interact with a dog.

Nikki is being fostered in CT and belongs to IGRF.

Libbie

Sweet Liberty, got her freedom the day before the 4th of July. Libbie as we call her came into rescue not only needing a home, but a name too. We found it only fitting that she had a name fitting not only of her beauty, but also of the day she made her debut into rescue. Libbie is a very smart girl and already responds to commands, and her name. She is Piddle pad trained and hasn't made a mistake yet, in foster care. Libbie is a 4yr old blue and white Italian greyhound. She loves to play and run but most of all she wants to be snuggled. She is excellant on a leash, but not in a crate. Libbie prefers to be by her persons side at all times.

Libbie is being fostered in CT and belongs to IGRF.

For more information on Libbie, please contact Tess at dragonflidreams23@yahoo.com.

Lola and Vinny

Lola (blue fawn/white - purple collar) and Vinny (fawn/white - blue collar) are both 3 1/2 years old. Vinny was very trusting from the moment he came into his foster home but it took Lola a couple days before she started to show her true personality. They both love to cuddle up right next to you on the couch and are happy to crawl up under the covers and make their own little spot in bed at night. Lola is a little more shy than Vinny but is the sweetest most gentle thing once she opens up. Vinny is definately the more playful one and tries to get Lola going all the time. They are quite a pair. Lola is definately the more independent one. Vinny clings to her and would be lost without his girl. They are curious about cats, will chase them, and have ended up hurt previously. Vinny is not a real big fan of dogs that are larger than him but may be okay given some time depending on the larger dogs energy level and type of play. Lola is very passive towards other dogs. They have no problem being crated together while at work but they truly do prefer human contact as much as possible. No small children because they cannot handle the being chased, poked, and prodded by toddlers because it makes them extremely nervous. So if you are planning on having children please keep this in mind. Older children would be okay. Lola and Vinny are outside trained but occassionally do have accidents indoors if not taken outside frequently enough. They will also go on pads if they are placed in the house. Lola can jump anything so if let outdoors she must be supervised. Lola and Vinny will make wonderful pets and will make you very happy and feel very loved. They are sweet, loyal, and loveable. They must be adopted together as a pair because they are bonded. Lola just went into heat and can only be spayed on 9/8 so they will be available for adoption after her surgery.

Lola and Vinny are being fostered in RI and belong to IGRF.

Rocket

Rocket is a large neutered 7 year old IG. With his beautiful blue fawn color he looks like a deer and guaranteed, he will steal your heart. He came into care emaciated, just skin and bones. After a dental and some healing months, he looks like a normal dog but at times he still has a worried look about him. He doesn't understand why he had to leave the family he'd had since puppyhood. He loves to cuddle, play, ride in the car and then cuddle some more. He gets along with other dogs and likes children.

Rocket is being fostered in Western MA.

For more information on Rocket, please contact Ann at ann@eastcoastigrescue.org.

Otis

Otis is a handsome big lovable hunk of an IG. He is three years old and neutered. He loves to romp and play but his main focus in life is to give kisses. He is one cuddly boy! Otis is healthy but he still has emotional scars from being attacked by two bigger dogs while on leash. He will need to go to an experienced dog owner only who has a fenced in yard and the time to work with Otis in overcoming his fears.

Otis is being fostered in Western MA.

For more information on Otis, please contact Ann at ann@eastcoastigrescue.org.

Vinny

This lovely little boy is 11 years young. I don't think Vinny knows he is blind because he charges around full steam ahead! Vinny likes to cuddle with other dogs and people and just hang out with the bunch. He was kept crated in a basement because of his housetraining issues. Vinny marks in the house a lot and will need someone who can work with him to overcome his marking behavior. He will need a quiet household with someone home most of the time.

Vinny is being fostered in Western MA.

For more information on Vinny, please contact Ann at ann@eastcoastigrescue.org.

Zeke

Zeke remains in care. He just celebrated a very noisy 12th birthday. He is exuberant and active and eats three big meals a day in order to keep weight on. His colitis is gone, he does not have seizures any more (and is not on medicine) and his luxating patella is not an issue any more. He is just waiting for his forever home! He will need a quiet household without young children.

Zeke is being fostered in Western MA.

For more information on Zeke, please contact Ann at ann@eastcoastigrescue.org.

Tony

Tony, white/seal, is about 7 yrs old. He is bigger at 17 pounds but really cute and is in great shape. Absolutely loves children and cats and would do best being the only dog. He has been somewhat neglected and is very needy. Even though he can't live with another dog, he is very well behaved when meeting other dogs on the street or at a Petco type situation. Wonderful in the car and very easy to manage. He deserves to be a part of a family that will appreciate how hard he tries to please his people.

Tony is being fostered in MA and belongs to IGRF.

For more information on Tony, please contact Mary at info@eastcoastigrescue.org.

Meeko

Meeko, red/white, is 6 yrs old. He is very sweet, but quite a scaredy cat. He is afraid of noises and looks for a place to hide sometimes. On the other hand, he is very snuggly. He trusts his foster mom in that sense, but other than that, he is very skiddish. He was given up because of his potty habits. His foster mom is working with him though and he is doing well. He is a love, he just needs the right person that can help him along; that is patient and will let him know that he doesn't have to be scared, that he is loved and cared for. He had a dental and lost alot of teeth, but is healed and doing well on kibble. He is fine with other dogs and cats as well. Come and meet him, he will steal your heart!

Meeko is being fostered in MA and belongs to IGRF.

For more information on Meeko, please contact Raven at raven@eastcoastigrescue.org.

Rizzo

Rizzo is a very active, clever, one and a half year old neutered male who will kiss you and snuggle with you and be your best friend once he gets to know you. He is very fearful of strangers, especially children, and it will take time, exposure, and a lot of patience to get him over his fearful barking and growling at new people. He has made tremendous strides in the short time at his foster home. Rizzo loves to jump and play and would best be in a home with a fenced yard, no children and with an owner who will school him in obedience. He would be a fantastic agility dog. Only IG experienced dog owners who are willing to make a commitment to Rizzo in helping overcome his fears will be considered.

Rizzo is being fostered in Western MA.

For more information on Rizzo, please contact Ann at ann@eastcoastigrescue.org or 413-625-9455.

Mia

Mia came to us in 2008 from a hoarding situation with over 80 dogs and is EXTREMELY shy. She is very fearful of the outside world and of people so much so that she will defecate if a stranger approaches her. We would prefer to place her in a home with a male IG or a submissive female IG. She needs to go to a home that is very low key, preferably with a single person as two people moving around will frighten her more. She has made progress in her foster home but when people come to visit Mia will hide for hours under the bed. She needs someone that is understanding of her fears and willing to work with her to overcome them, which could take years. She loves to sleep in bed, she spends 80% of her day in bed under the covers. Mia would be best placed in a home with a securely fenced yard or a home that's willing to let her use pee pads to potty. Her foster mom would be afraid that Mia would easily get spooked if she saw another person and could get lose if walked on a leash in a non-fenced area. We have tried to place her in an apartment situation and it did not work out because neighbors moving around would spook her and force her into hiding each time there was movement. Mia definitely needs a chance in life to have her forever home. She is not an ideal candidate to "visit" to see if she is a match because she will not come out of hiding so the person interested in her would need to keep this in mind. All her fears put aside, once she feels comfortable with you she will come out of her shell and be a "normal" dog when with you, but when visitors come over she will go back to hiding. She loves to be picked up and likes to have her tummy scratched and LOVES food. She anxiously awaits her foster mom coming home from work and will happily jump up at her and wag her tail to greet her. Mia is approximately 5 years old and is an IG/Chihuahua mix. She is mostly black with some white on her chest and weighs about 7-8 pounds. Please contact Melissa directly to learn more about her personality as she needs a special home to work with her.

Mia is being fostered in RI and belongs to ECIGR.
